Are there Medical Proof that sleep apnea causes lung problems and is GERD causes sleep apnea. Thanks
Sleep apnea occurs when the airway becomes blocked during sleep. A DR. can order a sleep study to determine if a person has sleep apnea. For some people if the apnea is severe enough they can stop breathing for extended periods 30-45 seconds causing their oxygen saturation levels to drop, their heart rate to decrease. Gerd occurs when stomach acid flows backward into the esophagus causing irritation, heartburn and other symptoms. One of the problems with Gerd is if it occurs when sleeping may feel like ypu are "throwing -up" it is possible to aspirate contents into the lungs. Always check with a Dr. there are treatment options for these disorders.
My doctor says yes..... I have GERD, lung issues, and sleep apnea. GERD often makes it too uncomfortable to sleep. No food at least 3 hrs before lying down. No spicy foods, avoid chocolate, caffeine, and keep your weight under control. All of these will help the GERD and the Sleep Apnea. Good luck.
