Size of the Moon

What causes the moon to seem larger at times and

smaller at other times during the same night?

The "size" of the moon depends on its place in the sky. When it near the horizon it seem to be greater than when it roam in the middle of the sky, because the rays (of its light) pass a thicker air layer, and they bends a little. a second reason is  that in this position you can compare its size to objects that come out near the horizon.

I've heard about this illusion before, but I'm not sure I remember the bottom line or actually if there's a definitive answer at all. I think one possible answers was that the moon looks bigger when you have something to compare it to. Here's a site with a very comprehensive discussion about this subject -- I wish I had time to read it now!
