Situation in Nepal

I'm sick at looking at paranoid government department's websites telling me not to travel to Nepal.

Can anyone give me reliable information on the situation in Nepal - is it dangerous for me to travel there?

Well, if you're not interested in your governments assessment on what's going on in Nepal and how safe is it for you to go there, you'd have to decide for yourself after catching up on the latest news first hand through nepali newspapers.

you'll find a list here!

Read the papers (not just one day - follow the events), and use a map to see where most of the violent incidents happen. This way you'll know where not to go if you decide visiting the country.

A good friend of mine just got back from kathmandu and would go back there anytime. The Maoists are degenerating into gangsters running protection rackets in the surrounding hill villages. They knock doors for money from householders but won't bother you. They are interested in establishing territorial influence not terrorizing tourists.

If you bump into maoists don't outsmart- give them your humble "donation", kindly ask for a receipt and continue with your journey.
