It's really nice that you are so considerative.  There is no one recipy to use.... each couple / person with there preferences.  The key word is: Try.... keep on trying until you'll find out what exactly is the best 4U (both).  If you are open enough with him discuss it with him and tell him you would appreciate it he guids you as per what / where / how he prefers.  Don't worry, I am sure that soon you'll overcome it and be as experienced as he is.
