Do you think that Serbia will take military action against independent Kosovo? Would Putin and Russia help Serbia? Or would US and Europe's support for Kosovo prevent another war in the Balkans?
I believe it was Churchill who said that the Balkand were a puzzle wrapped in an enigma. They have always been a problem since the Turkish Empire collapsed after WWI and later after Tito died and Yugoslavia split up into several states by religion - Catholic Croatia, Moslem Montenegro and Albania and Serb Seria. Thus the main problem is demographic especially since so many minorit enclaves are situated among major population centers. Russia opposed Kosovo independence because it feared its many minorities would also demand independent states. Russia has always protected it Serbian brethren and would probably not hesitate to actively protect them if they are attacked. We have the sad experience of the US and Europe providing only token protection to Serbs and Moslems alike.
I don't think there will be any military action. I have a feeling there is enough support for Kosovo's independence to stop military hostility against her. Serbia doesn't want to have another war on her hands after what happened during the 90's.
If you look around you'll see that no one wants a conflict here and even Serbia understands that it's not in her best interest.
Anyone who tries to attack an american allie will pay the cost.
