MULTI-CLIENT INSTANT MESSENGERS, ARE RAM HOGS!
I want a small one, meant for an old PC, because I have very limited patience.
What I mean by multi-client, is being able to chat from multiple clients at the same time.
Why do ALL the multi-client Instant Messenger (IM Chat) programs take a HUGE amount of RAM (memory)? Even when there are NO accounts logged in, the programs are ram hogs.
Pidgen , the opensource multi-client, takes 19mb of ram on my vista computer, immediately without leaving it running/bloating.
Digsby (a new multi-im client) takes 30mb of ram right off the bat! I understand you people might not care about 30mb, but I do. I run large programs and don't have much spare ram. Please do not recommend buying more ram, or I'll slap ya with a dead fish. Are there any VERY SMALL multi-client messengers?
What I require in a multi-client IM;
AIM.
GoogleTalk (and for getting mail notifications).
MSN Messenger.
MyspaceIM.
Yahoo.
(A small text-only skype client would be nice, too, but not necessary).
I don't need video/audio chat, I use Skype for that when I need it.
I also do not wish to use meebo (the browser client), because Firefox takes RAM too.
I'll state my question again, to be very clear on what I need: A multi-client instant messenger that does not gobble up memory. I think 10mb of memory would be ok, but not 30. Computers in the old days didn't need a TON of ram.
Thank you guys for considering/researching my question. I'll keep searching Google myself.

Update: I've discovered "Miranda IM". Woohoo! It's a crummy little program, kinda hard to use, but it works...so far. I've been running for awhile and it seems to stay under 7MB of memory. Right now it's running at 3MB of memory, lol. That rocks. TAKE THAT, TRILLIAN!!! What with your fancy pants graphics and useless features. I need to do a lot of reading up on using Miranda...it took a tutorial to get GoogleTalk running, and it does not seem to report when I have new mail.
