Seeking advise on legal action against law enforcement

Hello, I have a question regarding a legal issue.  My ex-boyfriend was recently charged with malicious destruction of my home and felony theft.  As a result of the incident there were protection orders put into effect.  We ultimately had to relocate out of state for our safety.  We were assisted by the Victims Witness Protection Program.  This was reccomended because at the time of the incident the responding officer demanded that I provide details about my ex and his "not so legal proffession".  He advised me that if I did not comply that he would not assist me in my situation and that my ex would never know where the information came from but that they needed to know so when they searched his home for any of our belongings that his officers would be prepared. Ultimately when they served him with the search warrant and found my belongings along with "everythingelse" the search warrant stated that I am the one that the information came from and what I told them.  The States Attorney was stunned by the officers actions as well as the officers Sergeant who assured me disciplinary action would be taken.  My question is "Can the Police Department (County) be  held responsible legally"?  Myself and my children have been forced  to relocate and are in constant fear of our safety.  If so, do I request legal advise from an attorney in the state I currently reside or the state where incident occurred?

Cool Equal justice for All

The law works but the system needs changed, We all abide by the law but sometime it failes us. The same with the goverment. God bless the USA, Brign our troops HOME safely, To the men who did not get the credit they deserve, MAY GOD WATCH OVER OUR SERVICE MEN.

If i were you i would the people who placed you in the  Victims Witness Protection Program for there advice befour you go to any attorney as this is the same as being a sitting duck for you and your children. As this can be used against you if your more or less you are gowing public . As you so stated that myself and my children have been forced  to relocate and are in constant fear of our safety this may also open a can of worms you cant close. If your in the Witness Protection Program you can never be you again and opening public records i dont reccommend it as they are under the FOI act and can be accessed by your ex also.So your best bet is stay out of it keep hidden as it is not safe in public. As there is more to this than you are saying about your ex-boyfriend  as i am just reading between the lines there is more involved than what you say. Or you would not be in the  Victims Witness Protection program as this has all the makeings of more than a DEMESTIC and a felony theft. LOL
