Hello, I have a question regarding a legal issue. My ex-boyfriend was recently charged with malicious destruction of my home and felony theft. As a result of the incident there were protection orders put into effect. We ultimately had to relocate out of state for our safety. We were assisted by the Victims Witness Protection Program. This was reccomended because at the time of the incident the responding officer demanded that I provide details about my ex and his "not so legal proffession". He advised me that if I did not comply that he would not assist me in my situation and that my ex would never know where the information came from but that they needed to know so when they searched his home for any of our belongings that his officers would be prepared. Ultimately when they served him with the search warrant and found my belongings along with "everythingelse" the search warrant stated that I am the one that the information came from and what I told them. The States Attorney was stunned by the officers actions as well as the officers Sergeant who assured me disciplinary action would be taken. My question is "Can the Police Department (County) be held responsible legally"? Myself and my children have been forced to relocate and are in constant fear of our safety. If so, do I request legal advise from an attorney in the state I currently reside or the state where incident occurred?
