Secret way to gain weight?

Is there a secret way to inexpensively gain weight? All I hear is eat eat eat. Is there something besides steroids that will cause the body to put on weight. I'm not interested in 5 or 6 expensive milkshakes every day or the phrase "JUST EAT".  There's got to be a substance out there that will contribut to weight gain. I'm 180 I would like to be 190 - 200. I lift weights take protein, creatine etc.

Bliss is a constant state of mind, undisturbed by gain or loss.

You need to lift as much weight as you can tollerate and do as many reps you can with that weight. Try doing heavy squats and dead lifts. Stay away from machines and dumbells. Just do power lifting movements. Try working out three days a week and only use a barbell when you do workout. Get at least eight hours of sleep a night and eat as much carbohydrates and protien as you can. Remember body building takes time; you will not get big and muscular overnight. I have been body building for well over twenty years now and I started getting the gains I wanted after five years of consistant training. When I started body building I weighed 179lbs now I weigh 245lbs at 8% body fat. Good luck and keep on training. You will get there.

Unfortunately there is no secret way to gain weight fast.  Like the first answer explains, you have to eat, weight train hard and get plenty of sleep.  It's as simple as that.

With the right muscle building diet, weight training routine, and sufficient rest and recovery, you should be able to pack on 2 pounds of solid dry muscle per month, which equates to about 5-6 pounds of muscle weight.

Here is a good article - How much and how fast can I gain weight?

Good luck!

"To assist someone else in succeeding is to insure one's own success."

I can somewhat identify with your challenge. I was always athletic, but thin, as I grew up. Later in life I decided to experiment with putting on weight and it led to my becoming a Certified Master Fitness Trainer. Let me share a few points with you:

  • To just gain weight is not the answer nor is it good for you. You need to make sure you put on quality weight, because muscle burns fat.
  • To gain quality weight you may need to do a split-routine workout. This means you work the upper and lower body on different days - not at the same workout. This will give ample time for recovery and growth. (I cover this and give examples of split-routine workouts in my fitness eBook found at www.fitnessbasics101.com).
  • To gain quality weight, make sure you do not over-train. This is a common mistake made by many.
  • To gain weight you need to lift heavy with fewer reps (6 or 7). Higher reps work great for toning and losing, but you have to push the muscles if they are going to grow.
  • To gain quality weight you need to monitor your nutrition. As much as the "industry" would like for us to believe, you do not need all those supplements. If you are eating healthy I would suggest you take protein, creatine, and a good multiple vitamin. A good rule concerning protein is to take 1 gram for each pound you want to weigh. If you want to weigh 200 pounds then you need to take 200 grams of protein each day. For most people, they cannot get this much through meals so supplementing with protein powder is great (whey can be mixed with water or milk and so is convenient to carry to work, school, etc.). Spread the intake through the day BUT be sure to take protein after your workouts (there is a window you need to adhere to). Also, creatine (about 1 gram a day) should be taken after your workouts (you can mix it with your protein drink).
  • To gain quality weight you may need to change your routine every 3 or 4 weeks. The muscles have a way of getting used to a routine and can actually stop responding in the way you would like for them to.
  • To gain quality weight you will need to try and sleep good.

If you implement the above I am sure your journey will be fulfilling.

Success to you.

Honestly, we have the same problem before, my friends always tease me that I'm like skeleton because I'm so thin but when I've started taking vitamins, eat much and sleep 10 hours it change me a lot,I gain 35 lbs in just a month. The secret behind it is my determination to gain weight and of course give time to your self to rest because as they have said mostly fit people has a time to rest to maintain not only their body but also their mind to be fit. Sleep, eat much and take vitamins and surely 1 month you will see the result.
