Live each day as if it's your last.
Do you think committing to things we don't want to do, let alone have to do, saps happiness?
When you don't give in to guilt, are you fully available to others without resentment or anger?
I think that if you do things you aren't happy doing you won't be happy. Answering to the call of guilt doesn't make the situation any better meaning that you'll feel better as far as the guilt goes but you still won't be truly happy.
There are compromises in life and you can't always do what you want but even when you compromise you can still feel that you're on the right track. When you haven't been happy for a long time it's time to check and see if you need to adjust your direction.
