After watching the movie 'Schindler's List', directed by Steven Spielberg, two questions came to me.
The first question is: During the second world war, why is it that the Jewish people in the concentration camps knew that sooner or later they would be killed anyway, not stand up and fight.
The second question is: What method did Hitler use during that time, to make the people become merciless blind followers of him.
Love is the battery of life....
Hi,1. With no weapons, hunger and ill, without any support it's almost impossible to stand up and fight.... On top of it, the reaction of the Germens when it happend was extremely cruel / brutal. Despite that in several camps jewish people stood up (e.g: See Mordechai Anilevich at Ghetto Warsaw). 2. The Germen nation was humiliated after the 1st world war. Hitler knew how to restore their national pride. He also promised the people much better life and be the leaders of the world. The Germen liked that "music". He was a great "mass psychologist" and knew how to bring the people to "mad" enthusiasm. He was a great demagog. At his time the economic situation was bad, terrible inflation, no jobs, and Hitler brought new hopes and prosperity. Best regards,
I was late for work this morning, because I got stuck in Zeno's paradox.
As Oron pointed out, the condition in the ghettos and concentration camps were such that it was virtually impossible for the inmates to resist. But there actually was some resistance. The most notable example is the uprising in the Warsaw ghetto, where an organized force of Jews fought the German army and kept them at bay for a few weeks (but then the Germans came back and totally destroyed every building in the ghetto, and killed most of the people there). There was also a revolt in the Sobibor concentration camp, and some Jews even managed to escape. If you're interested, there is also a lot of literature on passive resistance in the concentration camps.
As for your second question, it wasn't the only time that a Fascist and charismatic leader was able to sway people and make them do terrible things. The Fascist regime in Italy did terrible things during their reign, and in Spain the situation was similar (with Franco and his followers). Unfortunately, there are just too many examples (the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia, the massacre of the Armenians by the Turks, the "ethnic cleansing" in Bosnia...).
About your second question during that time , the world was exposed to mass media communications. One of the first things broad casted on TV was Hitlers speech. TV , radio, banners, papers were believed at that time to have the power to affect people. They were great tools to deliver the Nazi propaganda.

ok, on question 1... I think they did not fight back because the lack of food and nutrients they got often left them ill and too weak to fight back, also in these camps there were no ways to find or make weapons to fight.
