Everything I say can be fully substantiated by my own opinion.

Yes, the skin is shrinking because it's drying up.  It will eventually crack & peel off.  You can apply an ointment like Cortisone 10+ that will make it less uncomfortable.

What you think about you bring about!!!

Earls Brain's answer is right.....the cortisone would be a good idea, but in general, keep it moist by sprinkling COOL water on it, blot briefly with a towel, and while the skin is still slightly damp, apply the cortisone creme or any regular moisturizer...baby lotion is good; also cocoa butter....I'm all for the inexpensive when it comes to this sort of thing; save your money for other things!! just keep it 'moist' with the cortisone creme and/or moisturizer.....I suggest applying the creme/s at least 2 times a day, and perhaps even putting on one of those really large bandaids for larger cuts, etc., the kind that do not stick to the skin.. I think 'raw' skin like that should be covered most of the time.....I would leave it off for at least a few minutes a day, say, in the morning before you go out for the day...apply the creme, and wait to apply the large bandaid right before you leave; same thing when you are back home for the day; remove the bandaid, gently cleanse it with a MILD soap, apply the creme, and wait a while before reapplying the bandaid....sorry to be so wordy but I know if I was asking the question, I'd want some details!!!!!!! If you have any further concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to get back to me!!!!!!!!!
