Seat belt alert in Mazda 3

How do I disable the annoying beeping sound alerts in Mazda 3 when driving without fastened seat belts? I tried disconnecting the cable that leads to the base of the seat belt but that also does something to the air bag system (the red icon of the air bag stays lit on the dashboard) on top of disabling completely the notification about the seat belt.

I don’t mind the seat belt red icon on the dashboard, I just want to disable that terrible sound when I drive 5 meters without the seat belt on, God forbid.

Thanks.

this is the best answer_______ put your seatbelt on! my cousin and I were involved in a rollover car accident in his Mazda 3 2006 Edition. The seatbelts saved our lives while we came out w/ only scratches.

For all of you noble souls who possibly mean well but may not actually read my question. The question was not “what are the moral implications and practical consequences of not wearing a seatbelt?” or “Seatbelts – pros and cons. Debate” or even “I hate seatbelt alarms, does this make me a bad person?”

It was a simple technical “How” question...

So unless your answer starts with “To disable the seatbelt alarm do:...”, it probably isn't going to help me much.

I am a grown up person (according to most) I can make the moral and consequences assessment myself, thank you.

Daniel, The seat belt alert of Mazda5 vehicles (at least for 2006/7 European models) can be removed in a Mazda official workshop only. They actually connect a PC to the car using a proprietary interface and software. Could it be the same fo your Mazda3 too?

Okay I own a Mazda Protege 5 and my boyfriend's owns a Mazda3, and I'm not going to tell you to wear your seat belt, it's your choice, just like it is my choice not to wear mine. He did ask the dealership if they would disable it, and you can, well technically they can, I believe they told us it would be $85. I'm not sure if you were to get a belt from a wreaked 3, if that would work there might be a chip in the metal part like there is in your key.  But all you can do is ask.
