Probably not, but since when has government wisely spent tax dollars? To our elected officials, prestige is more important than fiscal responsibility.
In my area, the local governments have spent untold millions to support various professional Sports facilities. Each time, they have tried to sell the public on how the Stadiums create jobs and revenue, even though it's been proved that the revenue never equals the investment.
There's no sense in getting upset about it. This kind of waste has always happened and always will.
