Scaphoid bone injury

hi,i was on holidays two weeks ago with my girlfriend in orlando florida.we had been waiting for ages to go.first night there we went out and were both pretty steamed,we had met some couples.anyways in one of the bars was a boxing machine,so we all went hell for leather at that 1 by 1.anyways on about my third attempt,i gave it my all.i instantly knew i hurt sumthing but said nothing.i was pretty drunk anyway so i dint feel it much.next day i woke up my wrist was stiff as hell, swollen and very bruised even up my arm.i pretty much knew i broke/sprained and possably tore a tendon, but didnt want to make a big deal over it cos my girlfriend really needed the holiday,so i just went to a shop on my own and bought a thing that is pretty much like a cast, but more tidy and trendy :D ,americans have everything.so i monitored it and took care of it  alot for days(on the quiet) its not really a painful injury only when "used". so wasnt TOO bad to conceal.anyway two weeks on,there is no swelling and what was once pretty bad bruising is a faint faint picture.however i am still concerned about my wrist.i think i may have broken the "scaphoid" bone in my wrist.now i wud have no problems in takeing care of this break myself without going to a hospital, however,i have heard there can  be some complications due to blood flow if left "untreated" proffesionally.i guess my question is, has this happened to anyone else? did it heal on its own? were their any complications? i really cant afford the medical care right now and i like to " suffer" in silence as not to burden ppl

Neil,

There are several bones of the hand and the scaphoid bone is only one of them.

I recommend for you to go to the doctor so you can have an X-ray to see which bone got fractured.  I know you said you can't afford to go to a doctor.  Just go to any Emergency room, it may take a long wait, but at least you'll be seen.  There is no sense suffering silently because this will affect your job whatever you're doing.

Believe me, you don't have to have socialized medicine or universal health care to avail of the services of a doctor.  I have been an RN here in the U.S. and I have seen people who don't have money being served in the Emergency Room.

This is the best country in the whole world when it comes to health care.

Take care.Smile
