The Sansa Connect - how does the Wi-fi work?

I saw the new Sansa Connect - an MP3 player with Wi-fi. Unlike the Zune you can buy and download tunes directly from the device. However the manufacturer says, since you can't input a WEP or WPA password, you can only use it on an "open Wi-Fi" hotspot. Are there any hotspots that are truly open any more? Is this device really going to work usefully?

Consumer wifi AP's and routers all appear to come with security set up as a default, 2wire for instance with AT&T, and even free public hotspots require a password. Is it practical to find a truly open hotspot? I guess you could use MAC filtering but you can only reasonably do that with your own hardware and definitely not on the fly.
