Sam Lesson Suicide over Bebo Internet Bullying

13 y/o Sam Lesson committed suicide (by hanging) because he was bullied on Bebo for liking Emo music.

The parents blame Bebo, and say they did not realize the extent of the bullying till they saw the web page.

Can Bebo really be blamed?

Would this affect your use of Bebo?

I don't think you can judge the parents. They just lost their child and it's a nightmare no parent should go through.

I can't see how Bebo can be held responsible though. It's people talking, it's not like Bebo can really do something to stop it.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

This reminds me so much of the Megan Meier story, a young person committing suicide for something that occurred online. Basically, parents have to pay more attention to what their children are doing online, as what once was is different in this day and age. Parents need to get over their own anxiety of what they may hear from the children and really listen to their concerns and feelings. A parent should never have to bury a child; it's against the order of law. While I think there is fault on all parties, the mother, the child, and the internet, the blame game will not bring this young boy back.

Even though Sam was being bullied online, he shouldn't have taken his life because of it, he should've told someone or stopped using bebo and deleting it. I no its sad but this should've had been known of before he did wat he did, on any sides it was his descision but he should've told his parents bout the problem and done something. But in the end, he's gone and may his soul r.i.p. May the parents heal and live their lives without the company of their son, may they be safe under the loving hands of God and be protected throughout their lifes.

220 thumbs up

Web sites such as bebo are to blame in one way, which is providing a place in which it is seen as acceptable behaviour to bully people. I once found a page on there which someone had made about me, so wrote to them demanding it be removed, which to their credit was done immediately.

However admittedly there would have been better ways in which it could have been dealt with.

In my opinion, the parents played a huge part in his suicide.  I find it hard to believe that internet bullying was solely to blame; he must have had prior emotional problems that his parents overlooked or dismissed as normal pre-teen behavior.  Tens of thousands of kids are cyber bullied but only a handful result in a child taking his own life. I think only a child that had pre-existing emotional problems would take it to this extent.  The answer to being bullied on this or any site is to NOT LOG INTO IT.
