Does taking your high blood pressure medicine allow you to use salt the way you want???

I enjoy using Yedda to ask and answer medical questions. I previously worked as a nurse but am now based from home - having just completed a long spell of breast cancer treatment.

Life has also been busy lately after the arrival of our new puppy called poppy. She's a black labarador retriever and drives us all crazy at times but we just adore the buzz she brings to the house. Last week she caused me a shoulder injury by tugging when out walking - but I can forgive that for the fun she brings.

Last month my husband invested in the Resperate device for lower blood pressure - and boy is it effective?

No, not really. The medication will lower your blood pressure but using unrestricted salt will only raise it again. Try low sodium salt.

Not at all! the medications are really not enough to balance your blood pressure, you have to also change your nutrition, a big part of that is (sadly) avoiding salt. My husband was just diagnosed with high cholesterol and we have been starting eating healthier as a result. The big salt trap is actually not the salt we have on our counter, but hidden salt in different products - I started reading food labels more closely and it's just scary how much salt there is in product I didn't even associate with salty flavor (cookies, tomato sauce, canned corn and so on).

Sorry, I wish I had better news, but you have to mind your salt consumption while cooking and while eating out...
