My girlfriend told me that she had a car accident once that was caused by a faulty traffic light that showed greed lights to two directions at the same time. I was sure that there are very robust safety systems for traffic lights but I couldn't find anything about it on the web. How does it work?
Most traffic lights systems are automatic and by that no such thing can happen. There are junctions so over crowded on rush hours that they are being monitored by cameras and controlled by people. My guess is that your girlfriend's accident was in one of those junctions, as professional those people are, there's always a possibility for a human error.
