from experience I can assure you that asphalt will kill your knees after a while, but I think that will make the same effect. I know now that the more harder the surface is the more you ruin you legs. the best place to run on is on sand or grass.

I still disagree about the asphalt, check

this site if you wish to know more, but I was wrong about the sand as well.

According to my knowledge running on concrete is the worst thing one can do to his/her knees. Better off with asphalt, but nice and soft sand is the best.

Concrete is the worst of all running surfaces! Asphalt is known to be somewhat softer, but not by much. If you can, seek out wooded trails or a track...Good luck and best of health!

Asphalt has a bit of give, but still not much better.  Any hard surface is going to hurt the knees, ankles and muscles.  I love trail running...  Your muscles will always have changing motions because of the turning, twisting, adjusting over rocks and roots.  Anyway, back to question, Asphalt.
