A:

Jesus said the ruler of the world would be cast out (John 12:31) therefore in opposition to Jesus. No need to guess, the Bible shows that an unseen, intelligent person has been controlling men, as well as nations. 1 John 5:19 - whole world lying in the power of the wicked one - Satan the Devil. Also see Revelation 12:9 - Satan is misleading entire inhabited earth. Satan offered Jesus all the kingdoms of the world. Could he if he were not the ruler? (food for thought) He is also called "the god of this system" - 2 Corinthians 4:4. His influence is clearly seen in the entertainment, attitude and spirit of this world.

I don't think Satan rules the Earth since man has a free choice. I do beleive that Satan will try to influnece man in doing anti Godly things and he dose by choice. The comic Flip Wilson had a saying '' The devil made me do it'' but the truth is Satan can't make you do anything. He didn't make Adam and Eve eat the forbidden fruit. I beleive man rules the Earth God is trying to convince man to do good, Satan is trying to convince man with lies, to do evil.

Ephesians 6:11 - 12

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil .

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers , against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

King James Version
Job 1:7   And the LORD said unto Satan , Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

See John 12:29-33

29 The listening crowd said, "Thunder!" Others said, "An angel spoke to him!Jesus said, "The voice didn't come for me but for you. At this moment the world is in crisis. Now Satan, the ruler of this world , will be thrown out. And I, as I am lifted up from the earth, will attract everyone to me and gather them around me." He put it this way to show how he was going to be put to death.
