Roof repair - remove shingles or not

RRoogI have a 20 year old home  with 1 layer of asphalt shingles that are curling in several places.  How do I determine if I should: 1) Repair the curling shingles with similar shingles ( I have some spares that match from the original owner of the home ); 2) Put on a second layer of new shingls over the house: 3)  Remove all shingles and put on new shingles.    THanks

Two different roofers have bid on my roof replacement and i asked both what they thought of just re-roofing over the shingles that are there now. Both emphatically said not to even think about it, that you may get by with it for a short while, but that it will leak again.  :)

Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?

Been there. I agree with above answer. If you don't go with a professional to fix your roof, you will wind up having to do the job twice.
