There is a Robin that's been flying headfirst into our family room window.  This has been going on for (unbelievably) a week now.  We hear him as he crashes into the window - all day long.  Sometimes he sits on the deck railing and just looks at the window trying to figure it out - and then it's back to bang - bang - bang!  He is surrounded by trees but for some reason insists on flying into the window instead.  I'm afraid that he's eventually going to break his little beak or kill himself.  What can I do to stop him???

Put things in the window, he just can't see the glass and thinks it is an opening that he can fly through.

Use suction cups and hang sun catchers, stained glass, ribbon, bows... or put a few lines of masking tape across the window... just something to let him know it is not a way into your home.

Of course, another thing is, he could be seeing his reflection and trying to fight that 'other bird', but it's more likely the first.

At this time of year it is most likely a male Robin trying to attack his own reflection in the glass. They are very territorial during the nesting season, as are many other birds. Some more than others. IE. Mockingbirds. If he were just trying to fly thru the window, he would probably have already broken his neck. The attack flight is slower and at the end he strikes the glass with his feet and beak rather than a straight on full flight that would cause his head to hit first at a higher speed. I really don't what you can do to do away with the reflection in the glass. Short of covering the glass someway. I noticed AwlArtist has some good suggestions.

NATURE American Eagle Preview PBS

New Episode Premieres Sunday, November 16, 2008 at 8pm on PBS http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/episodes/american-eagle/introduction/4201 Everything about them is big. They are one of nature’s largest raptors, with wings that can span eight feet, and nests that can weigh up to a ton. Unique to North America, the bald eagle is the continent’s most recognizable aerial predator, with a shocking white head, electric yellow beak and penetrating eyes. Yet most people know little about it beyond its striking appearance. “American Eagle” goes behind the scenes and into the nest to provide the ultimate bird’s eye view into the private life of an American icon. “American Eagle” premieres on PBS Sunday, November 16 at 8 p.m. (check local listings). “American Eagle” is part of the 27th season of the Peabody and Emmy award-winning series produced by Thirteen/WNET New York for PBS.
