Robert Hawkins SKS Assault Rifle

Robert Hawkins was found with his SKS assault rifle, a rifle that was used to kill innocent Christmas shoppers.

How could he have come by an assault rifle?

Why didn't anyone stop him? It's not exactly the kind of weapon you can hide.

To Quiggles09,

What you have described sounds more like a sub machine gun than an assult rifle. I guess in your rush to try to be right about some thing you still missed the point.

10 thumbs up
I climb mountains.

Mark1974,

You're right, it sounds like a sub-machine gun-but there is one crucial difference.

Assault rifles, as I pointed out, fire rifle rounds (5.56mm, 7.62x39mm...)

Sub-machine guns fire pistol ammunition (9mm, .45...)

My point was to bring to light the true definition of an assault rifle. Your point was to try to make me look uninformed. Guess you failed. :)

Whatamoron,

Could you elaborate on "untrue?"

Quiggles09,

I feel that whatamoron has responded to you correctly. The only think you have "brought to light " is the true defintion of the term assult rifle based on your opinion. So what you are trying to say is if you a fully automatic AK47 then it is an assult rifle. Then if you have the same weapon but a semi-automati version it stops being an assult rifle. You might what to do a little more research on the matter first.

To VTsharpshooter,

I was thinking about Columbine High School and how it relates to what you wrote. I would have to agree with you when it relates to that situation. They armed them selves and tried to create an explosive device ti detonate a large propane tank and so on.

Quiggles09,

By the way you still missed my point. O.K. your definition of assult rifle is different then most people. How ever I from my first entry asked the question could this have been prevented if the weapon was stored more securely. Who cares if it was an assult rifle, hunting rifle or potato gun. If this weapon was secure and/or he didn't know about it would he have killed all of those people. Now go get your self a cookie and a tissue and stop crying.

Quiggles09,

You might want to contact the state of California and tell them they are wrong too. You mentioned the 5.56mm round, when I was in basic training in the army many years ago they refered to the M16 I was carrying as the "M16 ASSULT RIFLE". Now I was carrying the a2 model. Now you probably already know the m16a1 is fully automatic and the m16a2 is a semi-automatic with a three round burst. So it isn't truely a fully automatic weapon so you might want to contact the army and tell them, they are wrong..

If I wanted to point out that you are uninformed I could have pointed out that you stated earlier that sks's are used for hunting. That is kind of true but it would depend on the state your in. For example in the state of PA you can only use bolt action rifles so your if you tried to use an sks your actions would be illegal. And in other states you are limited by the size of the round vs what your are trying to hunt. For example the 7.62mm X 39mm is under powered for dear hunting. So again based on what you said their actions would be illegal. But hey thanks for the laughs any way.
