Ridges on top on knee cap. Not smooth, concerned.

Should the top of my knee cap be smooth? When massaging my knee, there are many ridges. My other knee cap is very smooth on top. Have had 4 knee surgeries already. Last one a year ago. This is the first time i have felt ant ridges. Pain above, below, and under knee cap
