Richard Branson donation to the McCanns

Why does a billionaire like Richard Branson has to donate money for the legal protection of the McCann couple?

In my opinion it's a different issue than the one of searching for Madeleine.I believe that as long as she's missing the searches should carry on, but why should parents, who with no doubt left 3 little children by themselves, get financial help?

According to an article I read on

Time online, Branson is a family man himself, and he's very conscious of the fact that there are other family members who are affected by Madeline's disappearance. He wanted to do a small thing to relieve some of the burden from the family, as legal fees have accummulated due to speculation that the parents are involved. (He obviously believes they are innocent of any wrongdoing.) I think he's trying to alleviate the burden of their worries about defending themselves so they can focus whole-heartedly on making it known that Madeline is still missing and they want her home.
