My husband and I are in need of a financial planner. I have read that the fee based planner that is certified is best to use. How do we go about finding a good one? What questions should we ask to weed the the so/so ones?
What else should we be doing? We have wills, living wills, life insurance and our home and autos are insured. We also have health and dental insurance. We maxed out our 401K contributions in our early careers when companies would match 1for1 up to a certain amount. We have quite a bit in retirement. His new company now only gives us company stock up to a % based on salary. There is no retirement plan for this new company. The company he worked for before this last one was bought out by his new company and a separate financial institution is managing the funds in the 401K for us. What should we be doing now that we are in our early to mid 40"s?
Also, my husband worked for a company early on that said he qualified to receive a pension when he retired. How do I check on this to make sure things are still there and verify that it exisits and how do we "file" for it when the time comes? Thanks for all of your help. H
