After a long time of running I decided it's time ...

After a long time of running I decided it's time to format the hard-drive of my IBM ThinkPad T30. (especially since I ran into partitions issues after installing the latest Ubuntu release)

Only after I formatted I discovered that ThinkPad has a recovery option built-in which format the computer and restore it to factory defaults.

Now I don't have any of the ThinkPad options nor drivers other than supplied with XP.

They told me the only way is to get it to their lab, and since it's out of warranty, it'll cost. a lot.

Does someone know how can I restore those functions or getting my hand on a recovery CD?

I know how that hurts. Formatting over the restore partition can be very annoying.

You may be able to find most of the drivers here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=migr-42358.

With the Dell computers I tend to use, I've found that the drivers are generally available for download on the Web. IBM is probably the same.

Where you're going to miss stuff is in the bundled software. That may not be available for download -- and is probably lost forever unless you pay the money to have IBM restore the restore partition.

Well, after a long night I managed to get back all required drivers from the website you mentioned, It took a lot of work but now everything is back to normal. Without the drivers I couldn't get windows update (SP1 sucks!), tv out and I had connection problems.

The only thing is that now the dedicated ThinkPad button is not usable, but I can live with that. (although I think i'll get it to work under Ubuntu following this guide: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkPad_Button )

Thanks
