Resetting car computer

My boyfriend has a 2000 Dodge Stratus. Recently, the "service engine soon" light came on, so he took it to a local mechanic to have it hooked to a machine that reads the computer. It told him he had a minor problem with his oxygen sensor/anti-pollution system, so he replaced a cracked vacuum hose, the PCV valve and the gas cap. The mechanic then told him to drive the car until the computer was reset, at which point it would pass New York State inspection. He has driven more than 100 miles and the computer still has not cycled through, so his car won't pass insepction. Does anyone know how many miles he has to drive in order for the computer to reset?
