Is a tax ID number and a tax resale ID number the same thing?
No. In the U.S. a tax ID number refers to the 9 digit number provided by the federal government and is used when paying taxes on capital gains to the federal government and states. A resale tax ID is issued by a state to companies so the company will be authorized to collect sales tax for the state at the point of sale.
