Repaint painted rod iron staircase (interior)

I have rod iron stairwells that were painted white. I would like to remove the paint and repaint to make them look more like natural rod iron. Any ideas?

Mr. Jona -- you really don't need to remove the white paint -- just make sure its clean and rough it up a bit with sandpaper, so you will get good adhesion -- real wrought iron is ordinarily dull black, so just about any paint for metal will do the job for you.  Good Luck.  I did this in one of my homes, and it was really easy.
