You can dispute you credit report to the credit reporting companies (Experian  Equifax and TransUnion). Write a dispute letter, here's how to write a dispute letter.

Yes you can just send them a debt settlement or a dispute letter using the services listed above.  It is a simple process, but it may take awhile to be removed from you score.

It depends... 1) Are these transactions that you've made?  If so, you have no real recourse except to pay your bill again.  2) If these are not transactions you've made then you can contact your creditor and tell them they are not your transactions and ask them what you need to do to dispute them formally.  You don't need to go to the Credit Reporting companies yet.  Try to resolve the issue at the first level, which is with the company that you do business with as a borrower.  3) Once your account is paid, unless you specifically ask that it be closed it will not be (unless the creditor closes it due to lack of payments, etc).  Even then, if there are transactions coming in during that month, they may still be allowed to hit your account because of a potential delay in payoff/transaction/closing.  Either way, if they're your transactions, pay for them; if they're not, contact your creditor to find out how to file a dispute.  Most companies are very responsive if you are prompt about reporting problems.

Remember...it's your money!

I agree that the best first step is to contact the company. There may have simply been a delay in reporting the accounts as paid, so call to let them know that they are still being reported with a balance. If it's only been a couple of months since you paid them, it may have just not been updated yet. If it's been longer than 3 months, though, you definitely should call to check on it. If, for some reason, they continue to report it the same way, then you can contact the Credit Bureau with a dispute. The company will be contacted to verify the account balance, at which time it should be updated correctly. If the accounts have good payment histories, don't worry about having them removed from your report. As long as you can get the balance reported correctly, it will help you.

Good luck with getting this straightened out...I know it can be frustrating!
