"Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move in the opposite direction."

        - Albert Einstein

If you are a religious person, the hardest thing in the world to do is to have faith. And if you are a person of faith, the hardest thing in the world to do is to have religion.

You can't prove there is no Gd. Look at a flower. How did become? If you see the science, who created the science? To say no one is to be an atheist.

You are pulling statistics out of nowhere, since as soon as you even attempt to determine Christianity through human assessment, you have made it human and not religious to say religion is a weakness, as an atheist. You close off your own connection to faith by putting another's to a human standard. THAT and not real religion is one of the contributing factors to war vs peace. THAT (war) is what is in YOUR imagination, not the existence of religion as a real part of the human experience.

Gd is above proof, either way - whether you promote belief or reject it.

Jodie Foster is an actress and you are saying she is an atheist? Maybe she is and maybe you agree with her however, neither she or you  Mr. Physee are authorities speaking for, to or through the world population on any of three main religions.

Fictitious? Hardly.

Religion is not about Gd finding you to make you believe but, should you ever choose, you finding Gd - all you have to do, quite simply and frankly, is to look at a flower and say there's no Gd.

I'm sure Gd does know where to find you and does and has given you the free will to deny to a person seeking a religious affiliation, the existence of Gd, in quite the same breath.

It's something you grow with or choose to let kill you. Obviously, the latter is the real weakness. Since I know this as well as Gd, I have not created Gd to fit into my life as you brazenly imply is even possible. I am simply human, as religious texts say you are also.

So outside of trying to diss religion as a fake authority and quote - true or false for no sane reason whatsoever, an actress on the topic to back up your claim to your atheism, what the h'll is your point? (You don't have to bother to explain - any person of faith can clearly see it for what it is.)

Whirlwind - you want to swat this fake or should I do it?

After the inculcation of religious propaganda it is much harder to be atheistic about the religious promise of eternal life. The Bible is a discredited book. The microscope and telescope have contributed far more info to science than the Bible ever did. Furthermore, these instrument showed the Bible for what it is--an ancient book of superstitions but with some interesting maxims for ethical and moral behavior. It has been replaced by the criminal code and cultural norms that have evolved over long periods of time. Some groups and people are slow in keeping up but that is because not everyone has had the opportunities to progress especially in academic studies. Again you can fake like you know there is a god and what are his intentions but I am sure I don't know and that you don't know either. You believe because you are comforted in some way. Aren't you? That is true whether or not there is a god. Isn't it? May you enjoy your continued belief for it doesn't matter if god does not exist. Iqthomas who is considering switching religions should consider the options presented here. See what comforts him. To me, secularism makes me happy. Woody Allen said, "To you, I am an Atheist; To god, I am the loyal opposition." Nevertheless, may you enjoy your feelings for Jesus that come from your heart.

Still need to quote celebrities, there? Now you are down to comedians? Whatever.

you get from religion what you put into it. It is not ok - whether you believe or don't, to presume to know how anyone else feels about their religion or anything else because emotions can be present in any given situation for any reason and is not relevant to your opinion of propoganda. It is a false definition of propoganda based solely on your need to choose to be an atheist.  Propoganda is hate that discriminates to make those spewing it feel better and often leads to violence. Read my previous post. Religion, any of the main three, are not the cause of violence. An atheist needs to pretend they don't exist or worse, should not exist at any cost to humanity to uphold the disbelief and place a barrier between the non-believing world and the majority of the believing world.

Science is found in religion but without law, there is no religion in science. So, your effort to separate the two, discredits you, as an individual who believes the religious part of life, while you say "interesting" cannot be (again to you) simultaneously moral and superstitious.

The ethics of living and progressing are not devoid law but causal to law and varies by location. People can never make the neatly packaged, one size fits all philosophy of life you are saying is the goal of religion. Spirituality has often been defined to seek that end and fails to with any consensus because beliefs are defined by individual interpretations, except in law. And, that, is where you leave out a great deal of your own humanity and seek to put down others to prop yourself up.

That is not religion, though it could be an affect of atheism. Religious people have their issues too.

Gd did not make people perfect because perfection is His.

It is something to work towards being your best and that is the only attribute given to all people with equal opportunity to fulfill. If you need a reason to, then you have no faith.

Without faith, you can't love. Without love you can't give. Without giving you can't love.

Life is a circle and every individual a circle within it.

Stop trying to make a problem where there is none.

If you check the wars of the world since Christ and Mohammed you will find that most the wars are being fought because of religious passions. Of course there were the Crusades (and Inquisition) during the times when the word of the Bible was taken literally (killing in the name of god). Now the clerics ignore the crazy info contained in the Bible and focus on the peaceful words. The Muslims are going to try to do the same thing but they are having some problems. There are so many violent Koran trained individuals that will kill anyone who talks of nonreligious peace. Almost every war now involves the Muslims now that the IRA in Ireland has finally made some religious peace. Muslims are either fighting other countries or fighting among themselves. They are fanatically religious like the Crusaders and . They get 72 virgins when they die fighting (Martyrdom). Wait until they find the virgins are all men. The reason religion is the problem is because it has dogma that is intolerant. Atheism has no dogma and no superstition. Atheism is merely a conclusion. That conclusion is that the Bible is absurd. It is that simple. You are using your rich imagination and tendency to pretend to define Atheists as more than that. Why do you engage in falsehood? In the words of George Carlin, "I have finally accepted Jesus. Not as my savior but as a man I intend to borrow money from." You know. I am an Atheist but I am a Puritan Atheist.

Just because we disagree does not mean either of us are engaging in falsehood. We have very different observations of the truth on the topic and that is not unusual to see happen in any discussion involving the the main three religions.

Your conclusions about your own beliefs and/or observations about those of others are yours and only yours and since you do not believe there is a Gd or believe every comic put down of religion is acceptable to you, your conclusions have no Higher verification once you turn off the television. And, if they do, you aren't saying. That is another reason your stats are irrelevant to the real world.

I already stated religion in the traditional sense, which is the question posted - not "what is the opposite of religion that [I] should convert to", references the three main religions. Some may overlap but are outside of traditional religion connected to Abraham.

Sorry I can't engage in your point because I don't see one that you are trying to make. I see you trying to start an argument and you and your no-one Higher than yourself are simply going to have to deal with that without my opinions on this topic.

-------------

If someone does not know about the dangers of converting outside of their own religion they don't need 'help' from people who have no idea what they are talking about because there is there is danger that makes it important to discuss the matter with someone within your own faith - not on-line. (To iqThomas) Phsyicalist is showing you the type of person if a different religion is your goal, you might want to ask your clergy in your current faith, the opinion of your church about the type of advise he gave you and you might find your own religion really is helpful to you.

Best regards,

YP
