Of course.. why would one BELIEVE in anything without the proof of it. That would be unwise. On the other hand ....
There is a real problem with the approach of actually rejecting a thing because of a CURRENT LACK of proof. One really needs to take into consideration the extremely esoteric nature of this UNIQUE topic, which is... that ONLY THAT can provide the proof of THAT. The contracting ego may not like this arrangement and truly this is a major part of the problem... the ego.
Mankind has this habit of trying to bring Unlimited Consciousness or "God" if you will.. down to their size. They want to hold THAT in their hands and check it out. That IS our program.. ALAS.. "God" / Higher Consciousness cannot be known (fully)in that way. People have this expectation that they would recognize Divine Consciousness if THAT were to manifest in front of them BUT.. No. It is an INNER Recognition... it happens between YOU and your own Higher SELF... which is the same in all.
There is a reason the topic of Divine Consciousness as a whole is called The Occult. It is wise to consider the very nature of the topic here... see below

Because of its extremely esoteric nature Pure Consciousness cannot be known by any "normal" approach that the dualistic mind might employ when seeking mundane knowledge.
As analogy only.... trying to prove "God" would be a bit like trying to PROVE the color RED to a color blind person. You see the problem yes? One could explain how the rods and cones of the physical eyes work, explain how the different wave lengths are refractive light, etc., etc., but after all that .. could you give have givein the color blind person the actual EXPERIENCE of RED? Could you PROVE red to them directly? No. the actual EXPERIENCE of RED would remain elusive... they would have NO PROOF, even as they wore a RED coat.
Pure Consciousness / "God" is a bit like that. It IS right in front of us.. all around us.. in fact.. it IS US... and yet, there is most often NO RECOGNITION of THAT. Why? Because we (as Higher SELF) chose to hide from our own self. But there is a very good reason for this.
We ARE Supreme Consciousness.... but we exist in this extremely contracted, finite state of awareness even as our actual essence is unlimited and beyond the dualistic mind's ability to perceive.. of its own accord. It IS a paradox for the dualistic mind. Pure Consciousness "dumbs" itself down if you will... it contracts its own Awareness. It BECOMES the MIND and then hides within the mind as a witness to this play of creation. The non local / non physical mind has been called the ultimate Virtual Reality Machine. It is HOW unlimited Consciousness ( what we actually are) creates, and is able to have experiences.
Consider: "THAT" or Pure Consciousness is everywhere present. Therefore...THAT cannot "GO" anywhere. It is already "there." So for Pure unlimited Consciousness there is ONLY *HERE and *NOW. It is a STATE of Perfect BE~ing.. as in the verb TO BE.
A good analogy for this play of contracted Consciousness/awareness is our own dream mode. Even though our head never leaves the pillow...(where we perform no action), we can EXPERIENCE, via the mind, "going" to the grocery store, to Paris, to other planets... we can meet all these amazing people.. and yet ... when we "AWAKEN" we recognize .. that everyone and every thing in that dream was us. A product of our own Consciousness. We may say, upon awakening that the dream was NOT REAL .. however it was a real, albeit limited "experience" for the mind was it not?
So.. this waking reality too is nothing but an experience of MIND... of Contracted Consciousness. Just as our dreams manifest out of pure Consciousness and dissolve back into pure Consciousness this current awake state that our mind enjoys.. or suffers ... is of that same contracted Consciousness. We SAY we have AWAKENED.. but have we really? How can one be SURE? Perhaps "we" should not be. After all, the subjective finite mind of man is notoriously untrustworthy.

Eventually yet another LEVEL of Awakening will reveal itself and the PROOF one NEEDS.. to know who/what "GOD" and what WE actually are... becomes undeniably clear. This Non-Dual state exists BEYOND Time/Space. it is the essence, the Source of the experience of Time/Space and IT IS what WE actually are.
This is why Enlightened Ones are referred to as Realized Beings.. they REALIZE what everything here actually is.... Pure Consciousness /"God"... their own Higher SELF...The ONE without a second. It is not that we BECOME 'THAT'... we already ARE 'THAT.' All there is here is 'THAT.' (Think String theory here). At the core essence of everything is this vibrating Conscious Energy which IS SELF AWARE.

So .. just as the color blind person is unaware of color, we too are typically unaware of our own True Infinite Nature. We need to become conscious of something that lies beyond our own limited awareness. We need to EXPAND our Awareness of Self. How to do this? One way is to stay open to not only the possibilities but also the apparent Impossibilities. Neither accepting NOR rejecting since rejecting a thing WILL work to block it off from our awareness. Remember. you are playing Hide and Seek with your self... and YOU are VERY good at it. ~ ~ ~
*Note: Some drugs have been known to give people certain insights as to the nature of the mind, and yet .. in the end drugs will NOT bring one to the Ultimate Truth and may even harm one's ability to go deeper and Higher into one's own SELF. There are no short cuts to Truth Absolute.
Note: Religions ( as I use the term) are not the way to THE Truth, since they too are trapped in duality) But there are non-dual philosophies which have true understanding and can point the way. Actually those rare beings such as Jesus, Krishna, The Buddha etc. really did have the Power to reveal Truth Absolute.. but religions have missed this detail and can think only in terms of heavens and hells... just more duality.

Some things to consider........
The ego veiled mind is a tricky creature. IF... it declares there is "no God" ... whatever the hey the finite mind might THINK that to be :P .... then the mind will program itself to actually BLOCK that necessary Direct Experience from itself. IF we are not ready to meet our own infinite Higher SELF then we won't. But once we become NEUTRAL.. neither believing or disbelieving.. once we can actually SEEK from a place of non judgment.. then things actually can begin to unfold for us. Then one does not need to BELIEVE.. because they will simply KNOW.
The necessary experiences we NEED to re-cognize our own UNLIMITED Higher SELF, which has been here all along... begins to create "glitches" in our finite mind program. The basic premise of the movie MATRIX is amazingly accurate actually. Our limited "Program" created by the finite mind begins to fall away and we literally AWAKEN to our True SELF.
So~ NO one is going to just walk up to you some day and PROVE to you that "God" exists...with any "outer" proof. Your own Higher SELF will awaken you.. the Dreamer... to your own Unlimited ONEness. Ultimately there is no Me VS that which is Not Me. There is only Pure Consciousness everywhere.... having all these amazing experiences.. via the subjective and very finite mind. Dream and Dreamer are ONE and the same. There is no OTHER "OUT THERE" at all. Everything exists within Consciousness as the Play of Consciousness.
So.... one COULD consider that they are playing this amazing cosmic game of Hide and Seek... where the ONE which is seeking, is the ONE being sought. You're IT : )
