I don't know the specific stats for the success/failure of the courts referral (no one does, as no one keeps any stats. That's the point of anonymity.) I can only answer for my home AA group, and that is that most, if not all, of the people referred never continue to attend meetings after they have fulfilled the court's requirement of getting their papers signed. The few who have stayed are those who are extremely motivated, and those usually wind up staying and admit that they have a problem, and usually wind up with long-term sobriety. (I know of one who has been sober since 1992.) Hope this helps. One usually has to admit to themselves that they have a problem. Most of those referred will not admit to the fact that they need help. At least, they learn where we are and what we are about for future reference if they finally admit that they need our help.
