Who designated red states conservative? It seems that the liberal states should be designated red.

Don't you remember the brouhaha that started when the news reporter asked if Obama's goals didn't seem a little socialistic?
The media has to walk on eggshells when it comes to equating liberalism with "The Red Menace".
