When a substrate is reused (used after it's intended purpose has been accomplished) for a purpose other than its original purpose can it be labeled as recycled? The substrate will be used for a "second" time for a purpose completely other than the original... different look, different industry, different purpose. The chemical or physical properties of substrate will not be altered (repulped or remelted) but the dimensions and packaging of the finished (reworked/cut) product will be different. Can the "RECYCLE" logo be used without worry of misrepresentation?
Usually, when the "RECYCLE" logo is used the item has some percentage of post-consumer material in it. In our situation we are not repulping or remelting in order to add post-consumer materials. We are, however, reusing the original material and prolonging its useful life before it has to be repulped, remelted or otherwise disposed.
Peace. Love. Recycle.
I think you can label the re-used piece as re-used but not recycled, as recycling does imply that you have added something to it. I'm just curious, but what are you re-using?
