Rebuilding the Economy

Idea for economy: While I voted republican, I am of the opinion that once a president is elected, then they are my president and deserve my support until proven unworthy. President elect Obama post election interviews have reflected him as a much more approachable man with common beginings and more conservative belief systems than pre election speeches would apparently allow. Also his overarching concept of approaching the economy and unemployment through infrastrucure programs is a plan that obviously has been proven in history, and one that I have suggested to friends since the first market dump. As another average Joe, I would like to share an idea that embraces and perhaps expands on Barrack's idea.....one that will not only put people back to work, but will ultimately keep generate money within our economy. The idea would be to build a high speed rail service that only stops in approx. 100 mile increments and would connect to key major cities (others within 100 miles) from the south such as miami, and west such as Atlanta, Nashville, Knoxville, Lexington, Pittsburg, on North to DC, NY, and in to Main. Using a european rate model, it would attract folks to local vacationing by train allowing folks to disembark and reimbark for a fixed rate within say a 30day period of time. A much more ambitious expansion of the concept would extended the concept to major cities around the entire United States border. This would create a focus on vacationing here in America. It would likely become a european choice of seeing America as well as for those of us who have never had the opportunity to see the west. It creates jobs all along the way throughout the country and generates revenues in those states as well both during the construction and long term once completed. An overhead rail would offer the additional benefit of even faster travel, smoother ride, and the ability to secure air rights rather than having to purchase property. It would be a project that once sold, would last for years and therefore would be paid for over many years, but would have an immediate impact on employment throughout the country. With a project in every exterior state, a legislative majority should be easy to obtain. Make this train electric and we could call it the "Green Line". What are the pitfalls in this idea?
