Real Media in Windows Media Player

Is there a way to make Media Player play Real Media files? (.rmvb, for instane)

Yes, there is. Although you should check if this option is really legal in regards to Real software's licensing agreement. I wouldn't be too sure about that: 

 There is a codec called "Real Alternative", available from http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm

There is a full version and a lite version. If you want to play real media files in the Windows Media Player, the lite version is sufficient for you.

The only difference between the regular and lite versions is that the lite version does not include Media Player Classic. Media Player classic is a free media player that looks like Windows Media Player on Win95/98. It's pretty good and fast, but not necessarily required.

Real Alternative Lite allows you to play RealMedia files in all DirectShow enabled players. Without this filter RealMedia files can only be played in Media Player Classic. This filter only works with files that are on your harddrive. It does NOT work with streaming content. Therefore it is highly recommended to use Media Player Classic, because MPC does support streaming content.
