It is my intent to roll over the assets of a Defined Benefits Plan into an IRA. The bulk of the Plan consists of stocks, however there is some Real Estate (raw land) involved. Can the real estate be conbined with the stocks to form one IRA.
I am not a financial planner nor do I claim to be an expert in taxes, estate planning, law, investing, or anything like that. Having said that - it is my understanding that (if you have a self-directed IRA) you can put anything you want under that "umbrella". In the 80's I am aware of someone who rolled IRA assets into "beanie babies" (the actual dolls, not the company that produced them) as a trading commodity and she would go to shows to buy and sell them using IRA money. The catch was that she couldn't "touch" the money personally until after retirement.
As for the wisdom of investing in Raw Land as part of your IRA, I can't say that I would advise anyone to do that; however as for your ability to do so - I'm pretty sure you can. Talk to a CPA, Attorney, or Financial Planner for details about how to do so and the advisability of doing so in your particular situation.
Real estate investing is widely regarded as a superior way to build present income and long-term wealth. Real estate is definitely a good investment opportunity. If you are able to identify the right property & negotiate well, you may increase your profit potential as there is a good return on investment. There is a tool which markets properties to national buyer pool & calculates the best price for rapid sale. Look into http://www.smartzip.com/s/sz/info/offer for more information.
I believe that this is possible. It is my understanding that they only way to do it would be by the use of a self directed IRA. I do not know what is involved in setting it up. I actually was thinking of doing this with Rental Properties in Salt Lake City. However, I found it to be very involved.
