Race definition

What should we call people that are black?  What do they want to be called? 

 

This is confusing for me.  I normally don't identify people by race, but there is occassions when you have to.

I don't think they all agree to the same name. But I understand they go by African Americans.

Julia, I sympathize with you. People of color have been called by many names, some by themselves and some by their haters. In my lifetime Blacks have been called by many names. I wish we could just call them human beings and drop the whole color subject.

I would like to hear from our black friends to know what they prefer to be called.

That would be a great survey for someone to conduct.

by their name--THEY ARE BLACK PEOPLE.  If in a business situation if the police are taking a report you would describe the male as 6' medium build black man (or -of the negro race).  I am not a racial person but the dictionary will explain it to you.  Look up Negro.

I am an African Americian but you could also call me black and I was born here in America. Sometimes it gets to be confusing because as you know there are true Africans from Africa and they too are called African Americans they were born in Africa and now are Amercican citizens. But I believe that African Americans who is born in America is ok with being called black. But forget the race and just call them by there name as someone else said.
