I think it would be really good hand and forearm exercise, and that your hands and joints would be very strong, and well moisturized

Jacky,

It all depends on the quality of training and the efficiency of your technique. I am an LMT who has been doing massage as my sole occupation for 17 years and have suffered no ill effects from my work. However, the statistics show that approximately 70 percent of graduating therapists will be out of the field completely or working as a massage therapist part time in 2 years. I believe this is because poor body mechanics and technique lead to an accelerated physical breakdown. The physical and psychological demands require discipline and dedication to the work in order to have longevity in the field.

Good luck,

Ricardo Cuevas,LMT

Hi Jacky,

I am, or was, a Certified Massage Therapist. Ricardo is absolutely right. I already had bad knees and a bad back when I was in school, however, I was in great shape overall. And like anything else that requires you to move excessively, you should take care of your body and stretch. That lasted me a few years, and eventually I could no longer do it due to the pain. In all honesty, not everyone is as lucky or hardworking as Ricardo.

this depends on a few things.

1. you taking care of your body: this mean stretching hand fingers arms, back through out the day. exercising to strengthen.

2. how many you do a day and the interval between them. when you have big days take the morning off next day.

3. the type of massage work you do, some modalities are more taxing on you body, i don't do relaxation that often because I find it taxing, and friends say they don't, but i don't have the focus for it so it's more draining than it needs to be.

i worked at a day spa on the week ends, 2 days of 10-12 people a day...Monday i sleep in. yes you can say i need the money, is the money worth your health....then you will spend more money later fixing yourself
