Queries about UK legislation

Hello

Please would you be able to help me find out some information about the laws and procedures governing fertility treatment in England ?

I am a British citizen currently living in France. I am 42 years old and single. I am beginning to panic seriously about reaching the menopause without having / being able to have kids.

I recently applied here in France to adopt a child but the authorisation procedure is very lengthy, French law is limiting on the conditions under which a single parent can adopt and the waiting list is long. Added to which, I would still love to give birth to my own child / children.

a) In France it is impossible to undergo fertility treatment if you are single. - I would like to know, please, if it is possible in England.

b) I may possibly have a willing sperm donor, who currently lives in France but is moving to England in September. - If fertility treatment is allowed in England for a single woman, is it permissible for her to provide her own sperm donor?

c) What are the upper age limits applied to women seeking fertility treatment? I understand I may already be very near that limit.

d) If all the above conditions are met and I would be eligible for fertility treatment in England, how much would it cost me? I am covered by the French social security system but not the UK one, although members of my family in the UK may belong to BUPA.

Thank you

Yilk

30 thumbs up

The need for a father was dropped in 2006, so single women are able to undergo fertility treatment in the UK. You also have the basic right to choose who the father of child will be, and in this situation he is no longer considered as a donor but as your partner. The cost should be around 3000
