Queen's day, Amsterdam

Queen's day is celebrated in the Netherlands every April 30th (unless it's a Sunday and then we celebrate the day before). the 30th of April is the birth date of the current queen's mother- princes Juliana. We celebrate it by folklore performances and flea markets. Also children perform in the streets and parks. In Amsterdam it's a huge celebration. Thousands of people go out to sell-and-buy, listen to music, and dance in the streets. The celebrating starts early in the morning and ends late at night. Beers like Heineken and Amstel are very popular this day and also an orange liqueur named: "Oranje Bitter". The reason we all wear orange is in respect for the "House of orange" a branch that took an important role in the revolution against the Spanish rules which eventually led to the independence of the Netherlands.
