"To publish" is a verb who comes from same root of the verb "to edit" (lhe latin word "editus", or, turn something public, to put something forward). This behaviour have been done for thousands years, and nothing make me believe it will stop now. What probably will change is the medium, the way it is done. But the essence of the word, to "turn public" keeps on the same track, growing everyday. The proof? Mobile phones, palmtops, blackberries, podcasts, and so on. Publishing is much more livier than anyone could ever imagine. That´s my two cents.

The world population of readers is only getting bigger, and on the other hand the west move towered e-publishing. In the west the industry will continue producing books and would probably sell them on the net like I - tunes. in the rest of the world publishing will continue as usual.

Best be published. Money mouth

Ralex is right. One transition could be the medium. It might go technical or not but definitely, people who wanted to publish their work and protect it already have venues such as self-publishing companies. Print on Demand (POD) companies such as XLIBRIS (www.xlibris.com) suggest publishing your book under your supervision which is very refreshing compared to other publishers controlling everything from book cover to the layout.

Well, before long, who knows - with the advent of iTunes and the Mac Notebook, everything is pretty much else geared towards the advancement of new methods.

Personally, I'd still like to keep my books and love their dog-eared pages. In hardcover.
