Am I Psychotic? Please Help!

Hi, I'm wondering if OCD and a psychotic disorder can go hand-in-hand, OR if someone could be misdiagnosed with OCD when they really have something else. Because I have OCD, but I recently had a hallucination.

I had a hallucination a few days ago, where I kept seeing shadows out of the corners of my eyes. Sometimes I'd see them on the wall, just big blobs that would move away quickly. I also heard little girl's whispers. It was so scary, I thought the shadows were going to kill me and I thought I was going insane! The next day, I had a similar attack. I also briefly saw rain falling through the kitchen ceiling, another hallucination.

I also have been experiencing odd delusions lately. For the past few weeks, I've needed to sleep with the lights on or else I'd die. I've also had this belief that my stuffed bear is going to kill me.

Now, I DO have my right state of mind. I know all of these things are ridiculous. But during the time that I'm experiencing these things, it all seems so real.

Could I have a psychotic illness? Please help!

Having a dual or multiple diagnoses is certainly a possibility, but not the only answer. The new symptoms you are describing should be evaluated by a professional.  Shadows, "out of the corner of your eye", and "little girls whispers" could also be a sign of hypervigilance, or a state of constantly being on alert. This can sometimes be caused by stress, anxiety, or even lack of sleep.  Another possibility is that your current medications may need to be changed or increased. Please check with a professional sooner rather than later.  Answers to your questions and treatment  are an appointment away. Good luck to you.

Hi,

I wouldn't diagnose anyone online but you are obviously having some major issues. There could be medical reasons why you are having hallucinations, or past traumas that might also be contributing. I would check with my MD or, if you are on medications, check with that person as others have said.

Take care, Z~
