I am building my new home, and notice that with gas fire place you do not need the chimney ? ' If this is correct I reaaly screwed up. I had to put a chimney 5 feet into my living room, taking up precious space. I had to do this because the chimney could not go out 5 feet from my wall since this would be to close to my neighbors fence. Instead the city made us put it inside my living room. Now I'm finding out that this would have been necessary only if I wanted a wood burning chimney, but with a gas or electric chimney, this was not necessary. Basically the only reason I have this massive chimney inside my living room is for show, because I am going with low manintenace " gas ". This was informative...but for me , if I knw this sooner...I coul have saved a lot of space inside my living room.
