My daughter age 17, read some article stating that protein is not important in her diet........she also will not take vitamins (she hates the way they taste and smell). I am concerned about her health, her energy level is low. She also has Celiac disease, and that eliminates her from haveing "enriched" foods that contain gluten. Can you prove to her the importance of vitamins and protein for teens?

Nutrition affects our entire existence. It is our energy. It effects our emotions, our appearance (not only fat, but our skin), and is essential to survive. Protein is a raw material we need to survive. Protein in the foods you eat is broken down into individual amino acids. Your body uses the amino acids to build and repair the various parts of your body. Your muscles contain lots of protein, and you need to replenish that protein through your diet. Your body also needs protein for components of your immune system, hormones, nervous system, and organs. Express this to your daughter. This article is a great start to understanding nutrition. Also I recommend a nutritionist to help give your daughter correct information on nutrition and her body. Maybe if you show interest in nutrition and health she will also, take it on yourself to have a healthy, well-balanced diet to be an example.
