Problems with motivation

Is there anyone else out there with fetal alcohol syndrome, having trouble writing their story? If so, how did you overcome your obstacle of apathy and your brain switching off. I have been tackling this problem now for years. I'd be very interested in your answers?

If you don't read the newspaper, you are uninformed. If you do read the newspaper, you are misinformed. - Mark Twain

Simon, while I don't personally suffer from fetal alcohol syndrome, I can only imagine the types of struggles you must have gone through in your years. Have you tried talking to a therapist about the past abuse? Do you think you would benefit from talking to a professoinal about your past? Maybe instead of physically writing your biography, you can use taped sessions with a therapist as a guide for your autobiography. Does that make sense?

I studies special ed at Kean University completing all courses except my student teaching due to a disabling accident. I'm really sorry for your disability as it was very preventable. My best freinds grandson has the same dilemma; and he and his wife wound up taking custody of him from their daughter. I don't know how old you are; but I can give you a few tips. First off; you have to try and recognize your strengths and weaknesses. You should also pay attention to the manner in which your disorder manifests itself ( sypmtoms and behaviors). I don;' know how old you are so I might be getting a little technical for you. But not to worry; you can do it! Trust me on this. A lot ot individuals with fetal alcohol syndrome display the same types of behavior patterns as ADHD sufferers. If this is you; try feeding your need for sensory input ( your hands need to feel something in them strongly). Stop your writting when you feel this way; walk over to a wall or door and put both hands on it and press for 3-5 minutes. Take a break and repeat. Do this about five or six times then go back to your work. You can also try squeezing a tennis ball and alternate it from one hand to the next. You might find that you are becoming apathetic with your brain shutting down because your mind is not getting enough sensory information from the outside world. Doing these exercises will help provide your brain with this input it needs and stimulate it while providing some good physical exercise! let me know how you make out. You can e-mail me  isurus123@aol.com. Good luck and have confidence in your self too. The most important part of learning and accomplishing things that seem difficult is understanding our own minds and bodies.
