Problems connecting digital camera to computer

I recently bought a Canon EOS400d digital camera. I installed the softwares that came with the camera, and then tried to connect the camera to my computer. The "Add New Hardware" wizard appeared, and told me to insert my Windows XP CD-ROM in order to complete the connection of the camera to the computer. I don't have the Windows CD. What do I do?

Hi Roee,

Have you considered buying a cheap card reader? I Started using such a reader once I upgraded from P&S camera to DSLR, and I have to say that it's wonderful. It doesn't require any special softwares or drivers, it's fast, and above wall- it's much safer for your camera.

Sounds strange to me because the Canon disk should have taken care of that problem. Try this: with the computer running connect the camera (make sure the camera is off) to the computer via the USB cable. Now tyrn the camera on with the replay switch (not photo) activated. Go into Windows Explorer and check to see that the camera is listed after the computer HD.

iv had the same problem. my canon was purchased from ebay as a canon refurb, seems that when camera is being fixed the enginner change the internal camera setting to factory mode this means that the home user get the error message that you are getting, this only came to light when i had my camera serviced at a canon dealer and the dealer changed the camera from factory mode to normal mode. hope this helps. roger
