Problem with shutting down my windows xp powerd PC.

Hello.

First of all,I use a PC which is powerd by an up-to-date Win XP operating system.

Still, for a long time now i'm having a very irratating problem.

When-ever i'm trying to shut down my computer, the opertaing system gets to the phase in which its "saving my settings",and stops there.

Its aint a question of time since at first this problem resulted in the computer left running for all night long, without any change.

I suspect that the problem has something to do with the fact i'm using firefox, since i never had this problem before i started using it,also,a friend of mine is suffering from the same problem and he too uses firefox as his defult browser.also, shutting my computer off manualy results sometimes in a total loss of my rich bookmarks libary(happend  only a week ago).

well I admit its a long shot, but other then that i'm absolutely clueless.

help please!

First, I don't think your problem has to do with Firefox.  And unless you have specific apps that require IE - I would definitely recommend that you continue with Firefox.  But that's off topic.

It's likely that your problem has to do with your registry being somewhat out of sync.  It's possible that your installation of Firefox or something else caused some sort of combination of events that caused the issue.  It's not Firefox itself, since millions use it without encountering the same problem (including yours truly).

I'd recommend you get a registry cleanup utilitiy (you can go to www.download.com and do a search for 'registry' to find a number of shareware apps, see their ratings and pick what looks best to you).  There's one called Registry Mechanic which is pretty highly rated and a number of others.  Once you clean it - see if that fixes the problem.  If not - it's still a good thing to do and if nothing else will improve the performance of your machine.  I think it'll probably do the trick though.

In addition to registry fixes, you should also make sure that you don't have any viruses or spyware on your box.  Spyware especially is known to cause these kinds of problems.

Well it could be that my problem is in the windows registry, but all the softwares i tried to download are limited to 30-50 errors(unless you buy) while they diagnosed my computer with more thne 500 registry errors. anyway i can get rid of those registry errors without having to pay for it?

Unlikely.  Just as you want to get paid for work you do - the people who write this very useful software also want to get paid.  So, they're giving you a sample to see the functionality, but if you're seriously going to use it - you'll have to buy it.  Considering you have over 500 problems in the registry - I'd certainly recommend that you do.  I'm not aware of any free registry fixer/optimizer.  Just keep in mind 2 things - usually you get what you pay for (i.e. free may not be optimal solution in this case) and if you ruin your registry - your whole Windows setup will be unusable, so be very careful about messing with it or letting questionable software do so.  DEFINITELY BACK UP prior to any registry manipulation!  Good luck.

I agree with RecordSage, the problem may be in the registry. Since I personally prefer using free programs, I can understand the situation that you are in. There is a free program that contains no Spyware or Adware, it is called

CCLeaner and you can click the link, or you can find it at www.CCLeaner.com. Also, be sure to back up your registry before any changes.

i don't realy thing that it stop there. if your computer is pretty old, its can take some time... even to 2-3 hours. try to clean up your computer.

first from virus (i recommend nod32).
then from spyware: spywaredoctor  or spysweeper.

remember, tou always can join the linux users (:
